12 Bible Verses for Anxiety: My personal list
Everyone at some point in their lives gets anxious about something which could be a new job, new environment, making new friends, starting a new project, going through hard times and so on. I particularly usually have a lot of anxiety of which overthinking is a dominating characteristic. There are so many bible verses for anxiety. However, I have picked just 12 of them.

These 12 verses were my go to verses in times of great anxiety. Even right now, they remain helpful and reassuring. I’m pretty sure they would also work for you. You just have to believe them and constantly use them.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
This particular scripture is one of my favourite scriptures in the bible. It let’s you know that you have nothing to truly worry about.
Therefore, all you have to do is present your worries to God and He will give you peace in return. That, to me, is a wonderful bargain.
Matthew 6:25-34
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
So I tried splitting this scripture to pick the verses since it’s quite long but I just couldn’t. The verses put together makes a great point concerning anxiety.
Why should I worry about certain things when God has got it all covered? I mean, my Father who is the Almighty has got it all covered!
Why should you worry about anything when God, your Father has got it all covered?!
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid
It says “do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”. No matter how things go, no matter how they make you scared and worried, remember that God gives us peace and we can always embrace that.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).
That last part is what I love “He will never let the righteous be shaken”. God wants you to cast all your cares upon Him. He also wants you to have in mind that whatever it is you are going through, He will not let you fall. God’s got you!
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
Whatever it is that makes your heart troubled, know one thing, God is with you. Also, if you know that, and you believe it, there’s no reason to fear; there’s no reason to worry.
Isaiah 41: 13-14
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
This is a great bible verse for anxietyGod isn’t just saying you shouldn’t fear, He’s also telling you that He will help you.
Mark 4: 40
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?
The wind and the waves attacked the disciples and Jesus while they were on a boat at sea. Meanwhile, Jesus was sleeping. The disciples were so afraid and thought they would sink and die.
However, they woke Jesus up and said to him – don’t you care that we may die? but Jesus commanded the wind and the waves to be still and there was quiet everywhere.
Related: Faith or Fear?
Mark 4:40 was what Jesus told his disciples after he had calmed the wind and the waves. “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Meaning that if the disciples had faith that they wouldn’t perish, if the disciples had faith in Jesus, they would not have been scared. Now let me ask you…
Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?
2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
God never gave us a spirit of fear. Therefore, we cannot be afraid of outcomes in our lives, we should not be afraid of the future. It’s all in God’s hand.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Therefore, Be strong and be courageous, God is with you wherever you go.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future
This is another verse of the Bible I love. God knows you, God made you, He has plans for you and guess what? They are plans to prosper you and not cause you harm, plans for a future. Don’t worry, God has something in store for you, you might not figure out your life yet or your purpose, but know that you are in God’s plan and it’s a good one.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
This is another long scripture, it’s actually an entire chapter. I could have picked verses from it but I like the whole of it. It’s such a great confession.
1 Peter 3: 14
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.
This scripture helps me especially in times when I feel like the odd one or I’m left out of doing things because I chose to do what was right.
I hope you find these Bible verses for anxiety helpful because they helped me in times of worries and great anxiety and they still help me.

Jeremiah 29:11 is my favourite Bible verse. Along with 1 Corinthians 10:13 that says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
They always give me hope when I’m filled with negative thoughts.
1 Corinthians 10:13 is another nice one Obi. Thanks for that ?
